Visiting the Trichologist and what to expect

Our aim is to help anyone with hair disorders and hair loss by gathering information on

Carry out a physical examination of the hair and scalp and gather a few hairs for a microscope examination where required to determine the condition and growth phase the hair was in when shed. Digital photos may be taken of hair loss for progressive assessments.
At the end of the examination the trichologist will explain what she suspects and may, if required, schedule a follow up appointment or contact you with her findings if further information or test results are needed.
Once a cause is established the trichologist will decide if
- A treatment plan at home with regular re-assessment to check progress and aid long term management would be beneficial.
- Or a referral to a medical doctor for further evaluation and possible medication for example hormonal imbalances hypo or hyperthyroid, (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome), diabetes, anaemia, kidney or liver problems, poisoning from pesticides, lead etc.
- If required advice surgical procedures or cosmetic camouflage in the form of wigs etc can be offered.
Treatment / clinical work
Hair loss can often be treated if the underlying condition is diagnosed and treated.
